Abolishing Self Promotion

One of the problems with people not only in the church, but also in the work place is self promotion. We all want to make more money at our jobs, but do we want to work harder? Many of us want the promotion without the work involved to get the promotion. The reason God’s favor doesn’t come without stewarding what He’s already given to us is because if we were all promoted by God to be millionare’s and top company CEO’s overnight, our character would not be able to handle our level of anointing.

When one’s character is not properly aligned with their anointing/position, the person promoted does not have the ability to properly steward their level of favor. A person who doesn’t know how to steward their measure of authority tends to abuse their position and cause division. This is the reason we have managers and executives of large organizations who are good at their jobs, but they don’t know how to treat their employees properly.

Many of us want to ask our managers for a raise or for more hours because we have “seniority,” but we don’t work any harder than any of the other employees. The truth about seniority is this… With a Kingdom mindset, we are not entitled to anything, but everything that happens to us is by the grace of God. While I do believe in hard work and being a good employee, that doesn’t automatically quality us for a promotion, it’s only by God’s grace that we receive that type of favor.

When we realize that all favor in our lives is because of us stewarding what God has given to us, it leads us to thank Him for the promotion rather than thinking it was due to our good works or seniority. I actually needed to repent this past Sunday night at church from the spirit of self promotion in my own business I’m currently running. Most people don’t promote themselves knowing their doing it; it’s a sneaky form of pride the devil uses to develop the false idea that self promotion is the shortcut to success.

There is nothing wrong with starting a business or promoting your products, but the important thing is to recognize who you thank when the favor/breakthrough comes. Many people would tell me, “when you own your own business, you are selling yourself.” The truth is that your business is not about you, it’s about expanding God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven no matter what it is that you’re doing. Our businesses don’t prosper because we made it happen, it’s because we took the initiative and God is the one who made it happen. Learning how to keep ourselves grounded is important because the higher up we go, the higher God’s standard is for us due to our greater measure of influence.

Promotion when it truly is from God is not only recognized in God’s Kingdom, but it’s also recognized by other people. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:3-4

God doesn’t promote you when you want it, He promotes you when your character is ready for it.
