What’s Love Got to do With it?

This subject can go in so many different directions, but before I get into any of them, let’s start with the source of love: God. From that source, love is something we choose to develop between ourselves and our brothers, our sisters, our significant other, our parents, and even our enemies. The question is not, “What’s love got to do with it,” but it’s “What’s our performance doing for us without love?” And the answer to that question is…nothing. Why do people have sex with random strangers?

People do that because they’re trying to fill an emptiness in the hearts by seeking an emotional high that was never designed to be shared with more than one person. Why do so many men hide their identity behind arrogance? The reason is that they feel an emptiness in their hearts, and they’re doing it to seek approval from others to hide their insecurities. Why is it essential that children receive positive affirmations from their parents when they do something great? The reason is that people need to be taught early in life that they are loved so that they don’t look for it later in life the wrong ways. With all of these things being said, there is a solution to the issue of emptiness; Jesus.

It doesn’t matter what kind of childhood we grew up in, it doesn’t matter what kind of neighborhood surrounds us, and it doesn’t matter if we’ve made mistakes that have negatively affected us for the rest of our lives. The only thing that matters is that we know we are loved by God, and that despite our short comings, we are called to greatness. Love has got everything to do with everything we do. You are not a truck driver, a mechanic, a president, a sales person, a sanitation man, or even a psychologist. What we do for others defines what’s in our hearts, but it does not define who we are. Above anything else in this life, we are sons and daughters of the Almighty God.

Knowing who we are keeps our hearts in the right place as we love other people with demonstrations of what we do. Our identity should never be attached to something that is temporary because if what we do becomes who we are, losing everything can leave us feeling like we no longer have a purpose in this life. Your possessions can be taken away but your identity in Christ will never die.

When it comes to being successful in life in all aspects, God’s love has got everything to do with it.
